The journal Acta Astronautica first appeared in 1959 and is published monthly by Elsevier Science Ltd in London under the auspices of the IAA Publications Committee chaired by Dr. S. Konyukhov, Ukraine. The Editor in Chief is Rupert Gerzer, Germany, and co-editors are: Commission I Space Physical Sciences: Nickolay Smirnov (Russia), Commission II Space Life Sciences: Martina Heer (Germany), Commission III Space Technology & Systems Development: Christophe Bonnal (France), Commission IV Space Systems Operations & Utilization: Jeng-Shing Chern (Taiwan), Commission V Space Policy, Law & Economics: Kai-Uwe Schrogl (Germany), Commission VI Space ands Society: Culture and Education: A. Ingemar Skoog (Sweden) and Haym Benaroya (USA). The managing editor is Monica Fust and the secretariat of the journal is located at the Academy headquarters in Paris.
The journal Acta Astronautica, 2500 pages a year, covers developments in space science technology related to peaceful scientific exploration of space and its exploitation for human welfare and progress, the conception, design, development and operation of space-borne and Earth-based systems.
