1st IAA-CRPSM International Workshop on "Remote Sensing of the Environment for the Sub Saharian regions" - ReSESS 2011

October 31st - November 4th 2011— Nairobi Kenya

Call for Papers

Registration form

CRPSM (Centro di Ricerca Progetto San Marco of the University of Rome “La Sapienza”) has a long tradition of activities in Africa throughout his remote sensing ground station in Kenya (Malindi).

The "Remote Sensing of the Environment for the Sub Saharian regions" workshop represents a natural result of its activities carried out in cooperation with the IAA (International Academy of Astronautics) and the RCMRD (Regional Centre for Mapping of Resources for Development). The goal of the workshop is to build a platform for International Space Agencies, researchers, ground station operators and users to meet each other aiming at presenting new satellite system initiatives, satellite based applications and products, African infrastructures, users requirements, and examples of applications in the field of Climate Change (CC) and Disaster Monitoring Mitigation and Prediction (DMMP).

Suggested Topics

• Climate Change (sources of climate change—anthropogenic and natural, identification of the critical climate variables and their impact on the human life);
• Disaster Monitoring, Mitigation and Prediction (identification of the measurements required for different types of disasters, their evolution, their spatial and temporal observation, IGMASS);
• Satellite data Acquisition (use of small satellite constellations for CC and DMMP), Processing and Dissemination (Capacity Building, Infrastructures in Africa, data extraction, examples of applications, benefit expected from the new applications, open questions).

Each session shall include solicited/invited and submitted paper.
The three days workshop shall be preceded by a two-day training reserved to a limited number (15) of young African researchers and students during which the basic theoretical elements of the remote sensing techniques shall be described by means of interactive and practical examples.
